Tooth-Coloured Fillings
Tooth-coloured fillings repair cavities and small chips with materials that match the shade of your natural teeth, so the repair is strong and barely noticeable.
Signs to look out for
- A visible hole or dark spot on a tooth
- Food catching between teeth
- Sensitivity to sweet, hot or cold
- A chipped tooth or an old filling that has worn or cracked
How we help
- 1
Examine
We check the tooth and, where needed, take an X-ray to see the size of the cavity.
- 2
Clean
The decayed part is gently removed, with local anaesthetic if needed.
- 3
Restore
The tooth is rebuilt in layers with a shade-matched material and hardened with a light.
- 4
Polish
The filling is shaped and polished so your bite feels natural.
This is general information. Your treatment is planned after an examination, and we explain the options and costs before we begin.
How long do tooth-coloured fillings last?
With good brushing, flossing and regular check-ups they can last many years. Their life depends on the size of the filling, your bite and habits such as grinding.
Can old silver fillings be replaced?
Old fillings that are worn, cracked or leaking can be replaced. We don’t replace sound fillings unnecessarily — we’ll advise you after examining them.
Will my tooth feel sensitive afterwards?
Some mild sensitivity for a few days is common and usually settles on its own. Tell us if it lasts longer or your bite feels high.
